In between two options, which one is right?

In our lives, we make different decisions every day. But what do you do when you're caught between two options? One is something you really want, and the other is what you think God wants for you.

In between two oprions

In between two options, which one is right?

I have two possibilities for a new job, but which one is the right one?

Option 1: Taking Care of Plants

Gardening is one of my hobbies. I really enjoy the process of sowing a seed and watching it grow into a big plant. Somehow, I have a strong desire to work with plants because I believe I would truly enjoy it. I would also be moving around a lot, which is something I like as well.

Option 2: Working with Plants in a Laboratory

After finishing my studies, I applied to work with gen sequencing, but was rejected over and over again. After a few years, I stopped trying and decided to give up on that completely, focusing instead on simply surviving.

The jobs I applied for weren't specifically related to plants, so imagine how exciting it would be to finally work in a laboratory with plants, while also doing gen sequencing. It feels like the best of both worlds.

What Makes This Decision So Difficult?

Option 1 is the type of job I actively searched for. I wrote a cover letter, applied with confidence, and truly believed, This is it. They responded quickly and invited me for an interview. After the interview they told me we don't think you have the right motivation for this job.

Option 2 is completely different. I had never even heard of this company. A connection on LinkedIn suggested it after I told him that I had left my job, wanted to work with plants, but wasn't exactly sure what kind of work I wanted to do.

For this position, I only had to send my CV. They contacted me almost immediately, and within one week (on June 4), I had an interview. After the interview, they told me they weren't sure when they would get back to me because they still had other candidates to interview.

End of June

By the end of June, I realized that maybe I don't want to work in a laboratory anymore—or at least not at this stage of my life.

Nearly three weeks after the interview for Option 2, I still hadn't heard anything from them. On June 23, I sent them a message asking about the progress of the hiring process. I still haven't received a reply.

I've made peace with that.

Even though I still want to work with plants, I'm not sure I'm ready to fully commit to a new laboratory job. At this point, I'd rather work a temporary job while exploring different possibilities than limit myself to believing that a laboratory is my only option. At the end they told me no!

So I started applying for other jobs that I think I might enjoy. I may be moving forward more slowly than I expected, but the important thing is that I'm still moving.

What Would You Do?

The truth is, I don't know what kind of job I want anymore because no job truly feels like something I want to do. I'm open to trying something different instead of holding on to one idea while feeling miserable.

My mental health is important, and so is yours.

What would you do if you were in my situation?

Which One Was Right?

I can now say that Option 1 turned out to be a closed door, while Option 2 is still uncertain, at the end it was also also a close door. But I definitely learned something through this experience: it showed me more clearly what I truly want.

I still have my gardening hobby, for which I upload YouTube Shorts on my channel, NekkasGarden. Working in a laboratory might not be what I need at this moment, and the waiting has helped me realize that.

I don't know what will happen next, but I'm at peace.

I trust that God will lead me to the right door at the right time.

Be blessed, and stay blessed!
